Dear Presidents of Developing Groups and Liaison Officers:

We are writing to you first of all to let you know that following the elections held at the delegates meeting at the IAAP's Congress in Cape Town, South Africa on August 15, 2007, there is a new administration of the Executive Committee (EC) of the IAAP. This EC will be in office from August 2007 until the next delegates meeting which will be held at the Congress in Montreal, Canada in 2010.

In the new administration the organization of the Developing Groups Subcommittee has been changed: there will now be two Co-Chairs of the Developing Group Sub-Committee, Joe Cambray, President Elect and Jan Wiener, SAP representative to the EC; the other IAAP Officers will serve as the remaining members of this Sub-Committee. We (Joe and Jan) are delighted to be taking on the Co-Chair role and look forward to getting to know all of you during the next three years.

There are now 20 Developing Groups in different parts of the world and because of this large number, we have decided to divide the administrative responsibility for different Developing Groups between us:

Joe Cambray (cambrayj@earthlink.net) will be the primary contact person for:

China - Guangzhou - Hong-Kong
Chile
Colombia
Equador
India - Ahmadabad - Bangalore

Jan Wiener (jan.wiener@virgin.net) will be primary contact person for:

If you have any queries, please do get in touch with us.

We would like to remind you that we will need the following information from you by the end of October 2007:

- a proposed budget for your group for 2008

-a summary of your programme for 2008 (teaching, supervision, public events etc)

- your contribution to the next IAAP Newsletter (up to 700 words).

We are also hoping to talk in some depth to all of you during the next year to find out more about your particular activities, interests and concerns as we hope to develop some guidelines to help Developing Groups reflect on their general aims, activities, structures, programmes and processes.

With best wishes,

Joe Cambray, President Elect,

Dear Colleagues:

We have heard that a number of IAAP Members, Candidates in training in Member Groups, Routers, and members of Developing Groups still do not know about Third Multidisciplinary Academic International Conference to be held in Zurich next year, July 3-5, 2008, on the theme of “Contemporary Symbols of Personal, Cultural and National Identity.” This conference, like the earlier two at Essex University in England and Texas A & M University in the United States, will be held in an academic setting: the ETH Zurich, where Jung held a professorship and an important Jung archive is housed. The ETH has agreed to serve as a co-sponsor of this important conference. In order to give anyone who would still like to submit a proposal time enough to do so, the Program Committee has decided to extend its deadline for receiving proposals to October 30. The Call for Papers is attached to this email. Please distribute it to and share it with all who you think might be interested in attending this conference and possibly making a presentation.

Sincerely,

John Beebe (for the IAAP) and Susan Rowland (for the IAJS)
Co-Chairs of the Program Committee

JUNGIAN ODYSSEY

The Jungian Odyssey is now approaching its 3rd year of success as an offcampus, English-language event. At this occasion ISAPZURICH opens its postgraduate training program to students and professionals involved in psychologyand related fields—and we welcome as well all others with interest in C.G. Jung &Analytical Psychology.

Taking place each year as a retreat in a different region of Switzerland, the Odyssey especially affords intensive study and exchange, with immersion in the landscapes that so influenced Jung’s sense of psyche. In this setting we illuminate traditional areas of theory—for instance dream, fairytale, expressive arts, bodymind, individuation and the collective. Moreover, theory is advanced through the presentation of new research—and through hands-on exploration of theory applied, both to personal development and clinical practice..

2008 INTIMACY

The Jungian Odyssey 2008 takes place in Beatenberg, a quiet mountain village situated at 1200m/3937ft, on the Sun Terrace of the Bernese Oberland. From a tranquil evergreen perch, Beatenberg overlooks Lake Thun and directly gazes on the daunting Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. This landscape truly resonates the conjunction of the near and far, the familiar and unknown—the intimate, and the distant other. Historical visitors include the Dutch Queen Wilhelmine, the Swedish Prince Gustav—and the revolutionary Vladimir Lenin. Not to be forgotten is the Swiss artist Paul Klee, who wrote that in this place, he fell in love for the first time..

VENUE, COST & REGISTRATION

The 4-star Dorint Hotel Blüemlisalp, this year’s venue, is a modern chalet with a panoramic view. Amenities include private bath, and use of the sauna, steam bath and indoor pool. At extra cost, Internet access is available by wireless LAN, in the public areas & rooms of the main building only. The comprehensive Odyssey fee covers • bus transport to Beatenberg and back to Zurich • all conference events • full room & board (excluding dinners on 2 excursion dates). Travel to and from Switzerland is not included. With registration no later than 29 February 2008, the fee per person is EUR 1994.00 (single) or EUR 1909.00 (double). For details see the enclosed Registration Information or download at www.jungianodyssey.ch. (ISAP students are subject to other terms and deadlines, which are provided with the registration packet for the Spring Semester 2008).

INVITATION TO SPECIAL EVENT HONORING JAMES HILLMAN

Thursday, June 19, 2008 to Sunday, June 22, 2008.

Sheraton Hotel en Station Square, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, EE.UU.

Friends of James Hillman invite you to join us for an archetypal event and celebration in honor of James Hillman in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from the evening of June 19, 2008, until noon on June 22. The intention of this gathering is to honor the lifetime achievement of Hillman's work and to acknowledge its seminal influence on many scholars worldwide, and to bring together many friends and colleagues who have carried on the spirit of archetypal psychology in their own original ways.

There will be dialogues and discussions on Hillmanean topics (no formal papers or lectures), a sharing of ideas, images and conversations in the midst of genial collegiality and friendship. James Hillman will be present along with his family, friends, colleagues, a group of archetypal authors, analysts, artists, poets and philosophers, including Hillman’s official biographer. There will also be a group of entertainers helping to make this event a very special gathering.

The event will correspond with the release of a book tentatively entitled Archetypal Psycholog-ies: Reflections in honor of James Hillman, edited by Stanton Marlan, which celebrates Hillman's work and the influence it has had in informing numerous psychological perspectives. It is anticipated that many of the authors will be present at this gathering, which include David Miller, Ed Casey, Ginette Paris, Mary Watkins, Michael Adams, Wolfgang Giegerich, Stanton Marlan, Michael Sipiora, Noel Cobb, Glen Slater, Ron Schenk, Pat Berry, Lyn Cowan, Greg Mogenson, Nor Hall, Tom Kapacinskas, Thomas Moore, Robert Romanyshyn, Sanford Drob, Sylvester Wojtkowski, Paul Kugler, Kazuhiko Higuchi, Toshio Kawai, Dick Russell and Robbie Bosnak.

During the conference there will be a book table offering works that resonate with the theme of our event. Nancy Cater of Spring Journal Books will be organizing the sale, which will include Spring Publications. Authors interested in having their books represented should contact Nancy and/or your own publishers to arrange to have your works available.

Nancy can be reached at: nancycater@springjournalandbooks.com
